Ronnie Agnew

Ronnie Agnew is a veteran journalist and media executive, serving most recently as general manager/content of New Jersey Advance Media (NJAM), where he oversaw the journalistic strategy and audience growth for New Jersey’s largest media source. Prior to joining NJAM, Agnew spent 12 years in public media, primarily as executive director of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, a statewide network reaching every household in his home state. Agnew spent nearly 25 years working for the Gannett Co., most of it in executive positions. He was the first African American editor of The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss., where he was a four-time winner of the President’s Ring, a designation bestowed on the best editors in the company. During Agnew’s tenure at The Clarion-Ledger, the newspaper was one of the most decorated in the nation, fueled by investigative reporting on civil rights atrocities of the past. Agnew has served as a Pulitzer Prize judge on several occasions. He is the recipient of the Silver Em from the University of Mississippi, awarded to a top journalist in the state. Agnew is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and is tireless in his efforts to bring young journalists into the industry. He holds a BA in Radio/TV and English from the University of Mississippi and was inducted into his alma mater’s Alumni Hall of Fame, and also the University of Southern Mississippi’s Journalism Hall of Fame for service to the community. He lives in Lewis Center, Ohio.
